Make Tomorrow Today - school song lyrics
Submitted by oliw-d on Tue, 06/15/2010 - 22:09Over the last week Luke and I have been visiting various schools around South Wales with our interactive concert. During the concert we write new verses for a song. The words to the chorus went like this:
Make tomorrow make tomorrow
Make tomorrow today
Make tomorrow make tomorrow
The ....... primary way
We have been really impressed with the creativity of the students at all of the schools and have decided to write down a few of the outcomes here...
St Thomas Primary, Swansea:
St Thomas Schools is very new
Make tomorrow today
St Thomas School is beautiful

A great summer of gigs
Submitted by Daniel on Tue, 05/25/2010 - 20:02The Devils Violin have an exciting summer coming. First up is Hay Festival
http://www.hayfestival.com/
Hay is an extraordinary event. We're privileged to be a part of it. It is hard to think of another festival so packed with ideas and inspiration. Scientists, historians, politicians, comedians, activists, musicians, film- makers...and storytellers. Hay has been a strong advocate for the artform. Ben Haggarty is also in the lineup, telling stories that inspired his wonderful graphic novel MeZolith.
Gwaenysgor go the extra mile

Its really touching to see the lengths some venues will go to to create a real sense of occasion for performances. My camera phone doesn't really do justice to this burning tree and sack full of secrets created by the team at Gwaenysgor village hall.
The Singing Bones, better than an election debate!

We were really struck by this creative advertising for our gig in Abertridwr on the 15th April 2010.

The Ian McMillan Orchestra at The Sage Words and Music Festival 2010
Submitted by bellowsman on Wed, 05/19/2010 - 14:57The Ian McMillan Orchestra (TIMO) has just finished performing at The Sage's first festival of Words and Music. Ian and Luke were co-curators of the festival and invited such luminaries as Randy Newman and Don Maclean to come and perform. TIMO performed a gig in Hall 2 which went down a storm, with its usual vibrant mix of humour, improvisation, nostalgia and moments of tenderness.
TIMO at The Barbican
Submitted by bellowsman on Wed, 05/19/2010 - 14:31
TIMO played a lovely gig at The Barbican on 12th May 2010. Ian and I had previously been working with a group of young poets and Guildhall music students to create new works of Words and Music. We performed these on the 11th May and the results were really well received by an audience in The Pit at The Barbican. The theme of the new poems, was, believe it or not, carpets and floor coverings! Our first workshop was in a really blank meeting room in The Barbican. When we looked down the slightly psychedelic carpet patterns started boggling before our eyes. We had found our inspiration.

Don't Sleep Away The Summer Nights
Submitted by bellowsman on Wed, 05/19/2010 - 13:18
I wrote an instrumental piece for The Devil's Violin. It was inspired by a trip to the north of Norway on our friends' 'Badebat, or bathing Boat. The Vulkana is a former fishing trawler which has been converted, with the help of a Finnish Architect, into a pleasure boat. In the hull is a Turkish style Hamam with rest area. On the lower deck there is a sauna with a window looking out to sea. On the top deck they have a spa pool which you fill with sea water, then heat up with a log fire. You can sit in it and watch the islands pass by.
