The Devil's Violin at Fabula

Fabula storytelling festival takes place over a weekend in the heart of Sweden's capital city, Stockholm. The roster of artists included the fantastically entertaining Clare Murphy (Ireland) and Ma Xiaolon, one of the last practitioners of a thousand year old tradition of storytelling in the teahouses of Yangtzou, China. We (The Devil's Violin Company) performed both a shortened version of our previous show, The Devil's Violin, as well as a full performance of the Singing Bones. The Fabula team were warm and welcoming and we left feeling that they really valued our contribution to the festival.

Highlights for me were the Story Fight; which saw a number of highly skilled tellers pitting their whits against one another and had the audience in stitches; and an informal music session in the bar where we jammed with (amongst others) a Swedish singer and storyteller who happened to have an extensive repertoire of Bulgarian songs and Klezmer fiddle tunes!

The following clip is from one of our performances at the festival.
