A great night at Little Witley

Wow.... what a great time we had at Little Witley last night. It started with Sarah's Song which was just brilliant and once the story telling started, well the evening was set. When the song about the Lofoten Islands started (where we spent a fantastic holiday last year) well that was the iceing on the cake. We really really enjoyed ourselves. As luck should have it our daughter lives in Gateshead so already told her how good it was.

Witely

Thanks Martin and thanks for spreading the word. Hope to see your daughter at The Sage.

Translation, please

And could you please tell me what language you were singing in that engaging first song, and what the words mean?

Sarah's song

Thanks so much for your comments. It was lovely to play to a full hall at Fillongley. The venue has a fantastic acoustic at I hope people continue to support events there with the same degree of enthusiasm.

The language in Sarah's song was created for how it sounds and has no specific meaning - I believe her main inspiration was Finnish. When we sing Sarah told us to think 'We are here, its beginning and we are excited!'

Keep in touch

Oli

And a thoroughly enjoyable evening at Fillongley

I just have to tell you all what a privilege it felt to be able to share such a wonderful evening of music and stories within a story within a story... We were enthralled from start to finish, experiencing laughter and a few tears along the way. I'll never forget that awful clanging lid, Daniel - I'm sure there must have been a gap of at least three inches between me and my seat at that point! And Sarah, the ache in my throat as you made the bones really sing. Oli and Luke, your oh-so-clever accompaniment interwove so well with Daniel's stories that at times I wasn't sure where the music ended and the words began. And Luke, you captured so well the spirit of Norwegian summer. As the well-deserved applause rang out at the end of the show, I just wanted to hear it all again. A huge thank you to you all.

A great evening at Geddington!

Oli, Luke, Sarah and Daniel - We'd like to thank you all for providing such captivating entertainment last night with your wonderful performance of "The Singing Bones". It is a sheer pleasure to experience four such talented people integrating their skills and energy, and the audience was completely absorbed. Many congratulations!Having previously seen the equally stunning "The Devil's Violin", we look forward to the company's future projects and will be recommending this piece unreservedly to family and friends. If you ever get round to recording it,be sure to let us know! (During one of the first tunes we all shouted "Hay",presumably because you'd been there the day before. Hope it goes well tonight when the audience have to shout "Geddington".)
Best wishes, Gail and Dave Blake

Recording

Thanks so much for your enthusiasm. We will definitely keep you posted about recording the show. In the meantime, we are discussing making a bonus recording available to registered users through the website... watch this space!

I was at Hay tonight, too,

I was at Hay tonight, too, with three children ranging from ten to thirteen years old. We were all transfixed - thank you so much for a great night. You are all four of you brilliant at what you do.

Susan

ps when the children were walking back to the car they were discussing which bit they'd liked best. One said 'the whispering voices and the way you could hear them but couldn't hear what they were saying'. One said 'the bit about where to put their fingers with the bowling ball' (and that was one of my favourites too). And they all sang, perfectly from memory, 'my mother killed me' over and over and over all the way home.
